Top 5 places to buy wine near Larchmont Village
Top Five Places to Purchase Wine in the Larchmont Area
Who’s up for a glass of wine? It’s always 5:00 somewhere! Here are my picks for the best area stores for all your wine shopping needs.
Larchmont Village Wine, Spirits & Cheese
223 N. Larchmont Bl.
Los Angeles, CA 90004
323-856-8699
www.larchmontvillagewine.com A neighborhood favorite, this family-owned and operated business is considered one of the best small wine retailers in Los Angeles. While this popular and convenient shop is respected for their thoughtful and thorough wine selection, they are probably best known for their outrageously delicious gourmet sandwiches and their famous cheese and meat platters. And best of all? They deliver!
K & L Wine Merchants–
1400 Vine Street
Hollywood, CA, 90028
323-464-WINE (9463)
www.klwines.com K & L is a California small chain store named one of the US’s top ten wine retailers by Wine Spectator. They have a great selection of wine with price points to fit every budget, and a friendly staff eager to help you find what you need. They also have a terrific selection of hard-to-find spirits, so if you’re looking for a special small batch bourbon or the violet liqueur you need for that cocktail recipe, here’s the place to go.
Domaine LA
6801 Melrose Ave.
Los Angeles, CA 90038
323-932-0280
www.domainela.com Domaine LA is a great little store with a small but extremely well-curated selection that’s much more affordable than you expect in a "boutique" wine shop. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. The shop is owned by a local Larchmont Homeowner and that makes me happy!
The bad news? They have one of the worst parking lots in LA. The good news? Two 10 minute parking spots. Last time I was there, I ran in, told the friendly sommelier that I needed a bright, crisp white wine for around 10 to 12 bucks, and I was back in my car with a delicious Spanish white in my hand in less than five minutes! Another perk is that they have fun wine-tasting events every week.
BevMo
7100 Santa Monica Blvd.
West Hollywood, CA 90046
323-882-6972
Yes it’s a chain store. Yes it’s a cavernous warehouse. But I don’t care, BevMo always has what I need. It’s nicely arranged by country and varietal so it’s easy to navigate, plus many of the wines are labeled with handy ratings by either their cellar master Wilfred Wong or Wine Advocate. I’ve found that I can never go wrong if I select a wine using my 15/90 rule – under $15 and over a 90 rating! They also have an excellent craft beer selection for your beer connoisseurs.
Pavillions
727 N. Vine St.
Los Angeles, CA 90038
323-461-4167
Ralphs
260 S. La Brea Ave.
Los Angeles, CA 90036
323-937-3264
www.ralphs.com I couldn’t make this list without including my favorite area grocery stores, and I couldn’t make up my mind which one I like best! Both stores have extensive wine departments, and you can’t beat the convenience of buying your wine along with your groceries. Both stores have wine experts who can be very helpful when you get lucky and catch them in the stores. Plus, both stores have wicked ongoing wine sales – 30% off if you buy six bottles. And Pavilions has now started listing ratings on some bottles, and my 15/90 rule is even more affective with that 30% off. Can’t beat that! CHEERS!!
