A Free Mansion in Beverly Hills?

Whether you are planning a weekend picnic, exploring some of the city’s hidden gems, or just needing a break from the urban hustle and bustle, there is definitely something to be said for the numerous public parks of Los Angeles. While some parks are undoubtedly nicer than others, I have to say one of my personal favorite retreats is hidden among the palatial residences of Beverly Hills. I’m talking of course about Greystone Mansion.

Built in 1926 for Edward "Ned" Doheny, by his father whose oil holdings made him one of the richest men in the world, the sprawling historic mansion and the surrounding estate have been preserved as a public park. Once there, you will be so taken in by the lush gardens, and gothic/neoclassical architecture that you will forget about the tragic events that once took place there.

And how about the beautiful gardens?

Even if you have never visited Greystone Mansion, you will probably recognize it as the setting for numerous films and movies.

Greystone Mansion is located at 905 Loma Vista Dr. in Beverly Hills- about 20 minutes from Larchmont Village. While the grounds are open to the public, the mansion itself is only open for special events as well as the occasional tour group. If you do wish to see the inside of the mansion, you will have to make arrangements in advance to take a group tour. Even if you can’t get in on one of those, you are still free to explore the grounds and peek through the windows.

The park is open for all, and admission and parking is free.
