Burbank Beer Festival

Wanted to experience a real Oktoberfest in Germany, but misplaced the keys to your private jet? Yeah, we’ve all been there. Thankfully, a great alternative awaits you in the San Fernando Valley! For the third year in a row, the Burbank Beer Festival (and Fall Street Fair) returns to downtown Burbank. San Fernando Blvd. will be shut down for this street festival, which features over 85 brews on tap from nearly 50 different breweries (both local and out-of-state)! There is also plenty of entertainment, live music, games, and art venders to satisfy the non-drinkers in your group. Admission to the Street Fair is free for all ages, but for those 21 and up, access to the brew zone costs $45 and includes plenty of samples! (Designated Drivers $10) Visit https://www.burbankbeerfestival.com for info.

When: Saturday October 21st from Noon- 7pm with TWO sessions of Craft Beer to choose from! Session 1 Noon-3pm Or Session 2 4pm-7pm.
Where: Downtown Burbank

DTLA Oktoberfest

Last year’s event welcomed over 10,000 guests to enjoy great beers, music and food at DTLA Oktoberfest. Food varies from traditional bratwursts and pretzels to Thai-Mexican fusion, and the music lineup includes local bands like The Tom Nolan Band and rockabilly groups to beat boxers, with Hazelnuss playing some more traditional Oktoberfest tunes. General admission is free, and all ages are welcome. (Tasting packages available for purchase.) See details at http://oktoberfestdtla.com

When: October 21 & 22, 2017 12pm-8pm both days
Where: Pershing Square, 532 S. Olive Street, Los Angeles CA 90013

Day of the Dead at the Cemetery

Come commune with your ancestors at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery’s 18th annual Día de los Muertos festival in Hollywood. It is the largest Day of the Dead celebration in California, and this year’s theme is "The Legacy Of Posada" in honor of Mexican artist Jose Guadalupe Posada. The party features art installations, 100+ ceremonial altars, cultural dance and music, food vendors, calaca (skeleton) costume contests, and art & crafts for the children. Tickets are $20 (children 8 and under or 65 and older are free until 4pm). I took my girls when they were little and it scared them!  I suggest 8 years and up. More info. at http://www.ladayofthedead.com

When: Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 12pm – 12am (Ceremonial Altar Set-Up: Friday, October 27th, 2017 – 3pm onward)
Where: Hollywood Forever Cemetery- 6000 Santa Monica Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90038

West Hollywood Halloween Costume Carnaval

Did you know that each year West Hollywood holds the largest Halloween street party in the WORLD? That is no exaggeration either- the West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval routinely draws over 500,000 visitors in a single night! This street festival, which shuts down a mile-long stretch of Santa Monica Blvd, is not for the faint of heart (maybe leave the children at home). It is a rowdy, raunchy, and wildly entertaining time featuring multiple concert stages, food, and plenty of booze. It is worth going simply to check out the spectacular showing of costumes that range from the extravagant to the barely there. Just don’t try to drive to it… seriously don’t. The streets surrounding the area are either shut down for the festival or clogged with traffic. So it is best to take a ride-share service.

When: Tuesday, October 31 6p.m. – 11p.m, the nearby bars keep the party going late.
Where: Santa Monica Boulevard between N Doheny Drive and La Cienega
