Here are some great family-friendly Fall Festivities, Halloween Events, and Pumpkin Patches!



1. Boo at the LA Zoo


The annual Boo at the L.A. Zoo has plenty of kid-friendly exhibits to explore, spooky tales, puppet shows, pumpkin carving and up-close-and-personal interactions with creepy crawlers (snakes, frogs, lizards), plus extra weekend entertainment at the Los Angeles Zoo in Los Feliz. 2. Fall Festival at the Farmer’s Market


On October 14 & 15, the Original Farmer’s Market in the heart of LA transforms into a country fair! The family-friendly Fall Festival includes the world famous All-Alaskan racing pigs, a petting zoo, kid-sized pedal-powered tractor pull competitions, old-time artisans, arts & crafts, pie-eating contests, and lots and lots of live music! Free!

3. Scarium of the Pacific


The Aquarium of the Pacific’s "Scarium of the Pacific"—an annual spooktacular, educational Halloween event for the whole family—returns to Long Beach this October. The event features a kids’ costume contest, underwater pumpkin carving, magic shows, spooky storytelling, crafts, eerie animals, and more! 4. Kidspace 21st Annual Pumpkin Festival


A fun, family-friendly way to celebrate the Harvest season, Kidspace 21st Annual Pumpkin Festival is sure to provide giggle and amusement for all ages. Attractions include a petting zoo, pony rides, face-painting, bouncers, carnival games, and seasonal crafts. There is also a costume parade, book and costume sale, live music, and tasty picnic treats. Festival admission is free, but some attractions require the purchase of tickets. See details here. All proceeds benefit Kidspace Children’s Museum.

5. Calabasas Pumpkin Festival


For more than 40 years, the Calabasas Pumpkin Festival has brought the community together for two days of fun and pumpkins! Festivities include live bands, a DJ, vendors, food & pumpkin treats, pumpkin beer, pumpkin painting, professional pumpkin carving and more! Admission is $5 and includes all inflatables & a giant slide, carnival games, reptiles & bug shows, contests, a Saturday morning costume parade plus car displays, bands, and a Business Expo. 6. Day of the Dead at the Cemetery


Come commune with your ancestors at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery’s 18th annual Día de los Muertos festival in Hollywood. It is the largest Day of the Dead celebration in California, and this year’s theme is "The Legacy Of Posada" in honor of Mexican artist Jose Guadalupe Posada. The party features art installations, 100+ ceremonial altars, cultural dance and music, food vendors, calaca (skeleton) costume contests, and art & crafts for the children. Tickets are $20 (children 8 and under or 65 and older are free until 4pm). I took my girls when they were little and it scared them!  I suggest 8 years and up. 7. Marina Spooktacular Halloween


Enjoy free admission to the two-day Marina Spooktacular festival in Burton Chace Park in Marina del Rey. The waterfront festival offers face painting, carnival games, bounce houses, food vendors, a kids tractor ride, pumpkin carving and crafts, DJ music, and more all day, as well as haunted pirate ship tours (non-scary in the daytime but spooky at night and recommended for ages 13 and up). Parents must sign waivers for their children. Free except parking.


When: Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. & Sunday, October 29, from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Where: Burton Chace Park, Marina del Rey


 



8. Howl-o-ween


Howl-o-ween is an annual dog costume contest held at a dog park at 182 Pacific Street in Santa Monica on the north end of the street. People can register their pups between 1pm and 2pm, and the contest and judging will be from 2pm to 3pm. After the contest, there will be a "Pup Crawl" where merchants are asked to put out a bowl of water and treats for the dogs and to have treats for the kids.

9. DTLA Halloween Party for Kids


Now in its tenth year, the annual DTLA Halloween Party draws over 1,500 children and their parents to celebrate Halloween in Downtown Los Angeles. Activities include face painters, bounce houses, arts and crafts tables, puppet shows, trick-or-treat doors, and more! Costumes are required for children & optional for adults. Remember to bring a bucket or bag for candy! No pets are allowed. Tickets are $7 in advance and include snacks, candy, and other treats. Purchase them here.


When: Tuesday, October 31, 2017 from 5-8pm (Last admission at 7:30PM)

10. Silver Lake Spooktacular Halloween


Sponsored by the Los Angeles Department of Recreation & Parks, the Silver Lake Spooktacular Halloween features free family-friendly fun and games in Silver Lake. Come enjoy lots of candy, games, refreshments, arts & crafts, prizes, costume contests for all ages.


When: Tuesday, October 31, 2017 from 3pm-7pm
